The author discusses various aspects of institutional violence, placing the emphasis on the so-called «necessary violence» (Piera Aulagnier), one that is exercised not wanting to cause harm but for the sake of the other. She reflects briefly on the concepts of violence and aggression, their differences regarding the intent and the asymmetry of the protagonists. She mentions violence by the institutions towards the users, that is all of us, and professionals who are part of them. She presents the figure, concept and role of the therapeutic companion as a working professional in the course of a multi- and interdisciplinary team, establishing an almost symmetrical relationship with each other.
