The concept of primal repression (Urverdrängung), which this year is celebrating its 100th anniversary, was one of the most diffused and less developed along Freud’s work, especially from the clinical point of view. In this article, after reviewing those Freudian texts that deal with the topic, we try to metapsychologically develop and update the above mentioned concept, taking especially into account the current clinic and the extension of the field of analyzability which has occurred during these 100 years.
