Psychodynamic factors underlying recurrence in cases of women victims of gender violence

Abstract

Clinical experience with female victims of gender violence shows that in a considerable number of cases there is a repetition in that these women are recurrent victims of physical and / or psychological violence, either by the same or different partners. This has two sides: on the one hand, a woman is a recurring victim of violence by the same partner (she can denounce him and then withdraw the complaint). Or, on the other, she may split up with the abusive partner but then choose another man who also mistreats her, and experience the same type of relationship. This work focuses on the recurrence of the position of victims of gender violence in certain women, based on the incidence of certain unconscious psychological mechanisms that tend to hold them in this position.
