To take flight in adolescence: adopted youth

Abstract

Adolescence is a normal growth stage that entails a physical and psychic metamorphosis enduring loses and changes. It also means re-elaborating and re-signifying what hasn’t been solved during childhood. For all that, it is even harder to endure it for young adopted teens who have undergone traumatic situations at the beginning of their life and/or during their first years which left loses, fears, insecurities and personal devaluation. The family’s ability to accept the adopted child as a son and the child’s ability to adopt them as parents, feeling confident in belonging to the family will allow him or her to develop a symbolic filiation with that family. That is what it will allow the child to grow and develop like other adolescents.
